From the creator of OneBit Adventure comes a new roguelike: Rogue Together. My name is Jonathan Concepcion, and my goal is to bring the spirit of Rogue to newer generations by bringing multiplayer into the grid based world! Over the past five years, I’ve dedicated myself to developing OneBit Adventure, a turn-based roguelike RPG played by millions. One of the most requested feature I received was, “Can you add multiplayer to OneBit?”. While I did attempt take on this task, the sad truth is OneBit Adventure was designed from the ground up as a single-player game and making the upgrade to multiplayer would mean sacrificing months or even a year of content that players would love.
The Vision
I want there to be a multiplayer Rogue that delivers a dynamic and unique story while staying true to the ASCII form. This idea brings a bigger vision beyond OneBit Adventure: a game that has united both long-time roguelike players and new gamers under a name that honors the genre’s legacy. Rogue Together is not overly complicated. It’s a game designed to be enjoyed by everyone, from hardcore veterans to first-time players.
Inspired by the classics such as Rogue and NetHack, Rogue Together aims to revive the charm of the original Rogue genre with innovative multiplayer mechanics. Play solo or with friends through endless procedural dungeons with the goal of destroying the Eternal Wraith. While honoring the original turn-based gameplay and grid-based movement, it will also feature CRT visuals and support PC (with controller support) and mobile platforms (Android and iOS), making it easy to play anywhere.
Community-Inspired
I love bringing new ideas to life that make for a better game. In OneBit Adventure, a community member once suggested adding pets that can pick up items for you, and it became one of the most beloved mechanics in the game. This type of suggestion brings the best out of me, and I plan to make it a foundation for Rogue Together.
Through Kickstarter, Discord, and YouTube, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to bring new ideas to the table. I’ll be sharing the development journey and highlighting key community contributions along the way. Together, we’ll build the most ambitious Rogue multiplayer experience shaped by the people who play it.
What’s Next
First off, we need to reach our goal on Kickstarter. You can Sign Up now to be notified when we launch in March 2025. Your support will be crucial to funding the resources needed to complete the project, including music, marketing, servers, and other development costs.
Without this backing, the risk is higher, as I would have to balance developing both OneBit Adventure and Rogue Together. In the past, working on two projects proved challenging and limited my ability to give either game the attention they deserved. With your support, we can change that.
By backing this campaign, you’ll be joining a loving community of gamers dedicated to reviving the classic rogue genre. Together, we can be sure that Rogue Together becomes the multiplayer roguelike experience we’ve all been dreaming of.
